and now... Our Exciting Kumquat Experience

So we went grocery shopping last night and Dave found KUMQUATS! He used to always use the term kumquat in sentances weirdly apparently and he didn't know what they looked like! So we bought two of them to see what they were like! The girl at the till couldn't figure out the code for them and she and people in line were saying how they'd heard they were really tastey! Anyway, she gave them to us for free because we were only getting two, so they probably wouldn't have cost too much anyway. We got home and I looked up how to eat one (Isn't the internet amazing?) and found out you're supposed to eat it like a grape!

I'll walk you through the experience with us:

After Dave testing the Kumquat waters, I learned from his experience and roughly peeled my kumquat.

The verdict? Umm.... they're OKAY... I don't think we'll be getting them again though.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity:
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength .The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I
am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released ˆ and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every
move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated
cell, so he is safe. For now...

Dave's Birthday/Congratulations on finishing year 2 Weekend!!

So sometime late last week I saw that it was the Vernon Winter Carnival and they had ice/snow sculptures at Silver Star! So we were planning to take Mollie for a nice winter walk sometime on the weekend to go see them and have a nice walk. Well! Friday at work I looked up the Vernon Winter Carnival website and couldn't find anything about the sculptures, so I checked out Silver Star's site and couldn't find anything there either, but I noticed that it was a special cheap ski night! $5 for a lift ticket and $10 for rentals!! I must begin this by letting you all know that I am NOT a skier. In fact, I would venture to say that I was a ski HATER! My only skiing experience was back in grade 8 when I went skiing with my class. I was stuck on the bunny hill with all the grade 4 kids and was not impressed with skiing. I vowed never to ski again! My dear husband, on the other hand, was born with skis on! Well, apparently he's been skiing since he was 3!!! Fortunately he thinks the prices to ski are rediculous and would much rather do his many other activities than ski. So.. we have known each other for over three and a half years and he's never seemed to even want to go skiing... and I, therefore, have never seen him ski! SO! On this fine Friday afternoon I decided that I would surprise him and go skiing! Oddly enough he actually hummed and hawed.. he hadn't been in YEARS and we had planned on taking Mollie for a little adventure... but in the end he decided he really wanted to go skiing. SOOOO... we ventured off! I don't know if there were sculptures there or not! Not anywhere where we were anyway! So I don't know what that was about on TV.. but anyway! It Dave is an AMAZING skier! It was so cool to watch him zoom down the hill!! I, on the other hand, did my best to go as slow as possible. The times when I couldn't stop were accompanied by shrill screams of horror... but Dave said I did amazingly for basically my first time! I couldn't remember ANYTHING I'd learned when I went that one time 11 years ago... gosh.. I feel so old! But yeh.. Dave tried to teach me the basics, but he had to remember what he was doing first! He remembered REALLY quickly. By the last run, I must admit, I ALMOST enjoyed myself. I don't know that we'll go back anytime soon, but I could see us going MAYBE once a year??



Saturday Dave saw Kendal at the Barber Shop and got his hair cut all spiffy! We brought Kelsey with us and did a bit of shopping down town after his hair cut. I think we may have had a nap in the afternoon and then spent the evening cleaning for Dave's party the next day! Mrs. Wooster planned all the food and everything and all we had to do was have the house ready to host everyone!

Sunday was Dave's birthday and my dad was actually PREACHING for the morning service.. but we had to miss it! He gave us permission since it was Dave's birthday AND there happened to be an ice fishing derby! Dave, his dad, brother, and myself ventured out about 9am on the icy terrain. Their goal.. basically to catch fish and have fun... my goal.. to WIN WIN WIN! Now, the thing about fishing for perch is that normally you just haul them in and everyone gets their limit. I must admit I was being picky and hiding the lure from all the little ones... but I did not catch ONE FISH until we were packing up to leave and Dave's dad gave me his rod and I caught TWO right away and they were about the same size and turned out to be tied with Dave for his biggest catch! So funny!! They were still the smallest out of the four of us though he he. It was a really wet, crummy sort of day, but I actually didn't mind it.. I think it was because I was doing it for Dave's birthday :o) We didn't stick around to see if we'd won anything, but I doubt we did. It was just a bad day for fishing!



I got home and Mrs. Wooster was working on the birthday feast. I had a bath and got ready and Mom and Kelsey showed up to help with the dinner. By the time I was ready they were basically finished everything so I made Dave a birthday card and got his present ready. It was such an amazing dinner!!! Deer tenderloin is seriously the BEST steak in the world! I don't normally like steak, but this was well done and it still melted in my mouth!! *drooools* buttered potatoes, roasted veggies, stuffed mushrooms! It was all fabulous! In attendance were: Dave's mom and Dad, John and Kristyna, my mom, Kendal and her boyfriend Jeff, and Kelsey! As well as Dave, me, and Mollie of course :o) The evening just went by... we barely did anything but eat, but it was fun :o) I just overheard John say he weighed himself after eating last night and he weighed 9 lbs more than he does today! AH ha ha ha ha.. that's SO FUNNY! For dessert we had this homemade butter crusted tart that she lined with chocolate on the inside and the filled with fresh berries and fruit! It was a lovely dinner :o)





Phew! And THAT was our weekend!! Tonight is the guy's hockey night and I opted not to have a girl's night. I find it so difficult to think of things to do. All I can ever think of is watching a movie, and sometimes I just don't feel like wasting my evening doing that, even if it's for the social element. We've got a games night planned for next week, so that should be fun :o) So tonight I made a chocolate cake which I plan to bring to Bible Study tomorrow night as a tribute to Dave's birthday. I also made somosas! I haven't tasted them yet because I don't feel like eating anything right now, which is rare! So I hope they're good! and I was planning to clean up the office here and get our 2007 finances in order, but I ended up posting this instead! John inspired me as he was leaving the hockey night to actually use the finance program I bought back when Dave and I got married to keep track of everything. It would be so cool to know how much we spend on things each month. I think I'll publish this and look for the program!

Puppy Shower

So the associate dentist at my mom's office got a puppy (part poodle, part multipoo) so my mom joked about how they should have a puppy shower and everyone thought it was a great idea! SO FUNNY! So Dave has the guys over for a hockey night every Monday so I decided I'd go to this puppy shower with mom and Kelsey. I ate waaaaaaaaaay too much food.. I love all those dips and appitizer things.. and of course I ate two brownies.... they were seriously insane... DARK chocolate with chocolate CHUNKS in them.. with this amazing icing.... MMMMMMmmmmm.. anyway! So Diljit is the dentist's name and she named her puppy Cocoa.. but her sister said she should name it an East Indian name so she named her Cocojit! She is such a cutie! It was so much fun, she loved all her gifts and ran from one toy to the other not knowing which one to play with. Too bad I didn't bring the camera or I'd post some pictures.

Dave's only got FOUR DAYS LEFT of school!!!!!! It's hard to believe! His birthday is on Sunday so that's going to be pretty fun. He won't have to think about school and he'll get to celebrate his big day :o) Then the 14th in Valentine's Day and the 16th is our one year, 10 month anniversary! I have no idea what we're going to do for Valentine's Day. Originally I thought about taking Friday off of work and going with Dave to Kamloops and shopping while he was in school and then we could do something fun and romantic in Kamloops and have a nice romantic dinner and I was thinking we could even stay at a hotel there or something... buuuuuuut that would be $$ we don't have since buying our TV on boxing day... plus me missing work would be even more $$ lost.. so I dunno! Just seems like it's nice to do something before the rush of Valentine's Day when the movies and restaraunts are full. SO I dunno what we're going to do. There IS something about cooking a nice meal and cuddling up and just watching a movie at home.. even though it's not anything out of the ordinary.

Awhile back Dave's dad sent him home with a set of antler's for rattling.. for hunting. When we got home that night Mollie went into the plastic bag and drug out one of the antlers and just LOVED chewing on it! It was so cute we had to take some pictures before taking it away. It's kinda gross, but funny and cute at the same time.
